WELCOME TO THE CONFESSIONAL
Forgive me, Euterpe, for I have sinned. I’ve been noodling on guitar for close to 40 years… and I suck.
Why do I suck? Because I never had a teacher. Because I didn’t learn that I was supposed to play along to a metronome until a few years ago. Because I’ve mostly just been goofing around the entire time with no systematic process for what or how to play. Because of these (and other) reasons, my playing is largely a (very loose) patchwork of exercises, scales, chords, and a few songs slathered about for good measure.
Have I picked up a thing or two since I started back in the 80s? Sure. Some feel. Some facility on the fretboard. A bit of an ear for what notes work where. All the cowboy and bar chords (even some spicy jazz chords). A few riffs here and there from the Hair Metal classics. But certainly nothing indicative of how many years I’ve had a guitar in my hands.
I build this site (and the accompanying YouTube channel) precisely because I suck at guitar, both playing- and songwriting-wise. It’s time to change that. As stated above, I’m clearly not Your Guitar Guruâ„¢. Neither am I a gear maven. And while I do have one song in an Independent Film (which was good enough to get me into ASCAP), I am certainly not an accomplished songwriter.
